For instance, if you want to make your room spacious, you may use light-colored paints like white, light grey, or light blue shade. On the contrary, darker colors will be ideal for a moody feel in a large room.

Learning to paint like a pro, like most skills, has advantages. After all, painting can be relatively inexpensive and painless if done correctly.

Before grabbing your brush, it’s essential to know how the professionals get that beautiful finish. Read on to learn how to paint home interiors like a pro.

Invest In Quality Paint And Tools

When it comes to a paint job, its quality does matter. The higher the quality of the best interior paint, the more coverage, finish, and color you get. It’s important to note that higher-quality paint might be more expensive than the cheaper option. But the results will not only be great, but they’ll also last longer.

Since pros use quality paint, it might be better to invest in them. You can go further and get trim paint different from regular paint. This way, you’ll achieve a cleaner and much better finish on all your trims.

For tools, it’s better to opt for quality brushes that won’t shed bristles, thus ruining the project. A quality roller cover will absorb and transfer paint to the wall consistently. And to eliminate waste, a roller screen used in the bucket will drain excess paint back into the container.

Prep The Room For Painting

Protecting Space Before Painting

Prepping your space is a crucial part of the painting that’ll make or break the result. Every painter can attest to prepping the room before a project to avoid getting a shoddy look. It ensures that the paint adheres well and the surfaces are smooth. To prep as a pro, follow the following steps:

  • Protect Your Space

The first step when prepping is ensuring that the surrounding area is protected from any damage that might happen during the painting process. It includes removing any furniture and possessions from the floors and walls.

Any items that can’t be moved, including carpets, heavy furniture, and appliances, should be covered. You can use drop cloths or tarps to protect everything from paint stains and dust.

  • Get Rid Of Old Paint

This step is optional but vital if you have chipping and flaking paint. It’s better to get rid of the loose paint before applying a new coat if you hope to get a smooth finish.

  • Mend Defects

For painters to achieve the perfect finish, they inspect all surfaces for defects. You can inspect your surfaces for nail holes and any other issues that’ll show once you paint them. Once the defects have been identified, consider using the appropriate treatments to ensure an even surface. Remember to let the treatments dry between all the needed applications.

  • Sand And Clean The Surface

Once you’ve removed the old paint and mended all the defects, you’ll realize that the surface remains lumpy and uneven. To solve these issues, you have to sand the surface for a smooth and even look.

However, sanding will create plenty of dust that must be cleaned. That’ll mean cleaning the surfaces needed to be painted. Cleaning using a mild detergent removes the accumulated dirt and debris.

  • Cover Areas Not Being Painted

Numerous places might not need painting. Some places where paint might wind up include trims, windows, and ceilings. You might get a sloppy paint job if they aren’t covered effectively.

  • Remove Outlet Covers

Getting rid of outlet covers before painting is vital. It prevents oil spills from getting onto them and ruining the look. Consider using painter’s tape to protect uncovered switches and outlets.

  • Prime Your Surfaces

Primers are an essential part of prepping for painting. Priming your surfaces is a great way to cover stains and get the paint to adhere to the walls better. It also helps mask minor imperfections and make the paint appear more uniform.

Start Painting

Once you’re done prepping, the next step is painting your surfaces. Consider using painter’s tape to ensure the edges come out perfectly. When painting the edges, consider using an angled brush and gently draw the brush along the walls. In case you mess up, quickly clean it up using a cloth.

Next, prepare the roller with paint by dipping it into the paint bucket. Once it’s well immersed, take it out and use the screen to eliminate excess paint. Pull the roller back up and ensure it’s well-coated in paint.

Once your roller is well coated, roll it in a W shape starting in one corner of the wall, then up and down. Keep working quickly to prevent the paint from drying up. Remember to finish your painting by turning the roller vertically or horizontally to smooth out everything.

Bottom Line

Like professionals, you can paint your home interiors effectively. All you need to do is have the appropriate tools and paints. For the perfect paint job, you must follow the steps and utilize professional painters’ tips that have worked well in the past. To achieve the best outcomes, keep getting the appropriate paint for your space.
